I finished reading this book, for the second time, this past week. This book makes me laugh, it makes me cry, and it makes me want to meet Morrie someday.
He is such a GREAT teacher, even when he isn't in front of his college classes teaching anymore. I love how he teaches/taught, and I love how Mitch listened/learned.
One of my favorite quotes in the book is, "So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning." This was one of the many excellent quotes from Morrie.
As he was dying from ALS, he would tell Mitch that dying makes you learn how to live. He talked about looking out the window in his office and really "seeing" what was out there. He talked about listening to music and hearing it and wanting so badly to be surrounded by the people he loved.
We all need to be reminded of this lesson now and then...
