Tonight, my mom and I went downtown to attend the General Relief Society Conference. I have never been on the Main Street Plaza, nor have I ever been to the Conference Center. They were majestic. Just beautiful.
We arrived early enough that I was able to just sit in my seat and look around and really take it in. The Prophet, President Monson walked in and there was silence...I mean NO noise. We all rose to our feet and this sweet man walked in with his counselors and just waved and waved, to everyone...even me, I thought. It was really neat.
When everyone started to sing the opening hymn, it sounded so beautiful. The talks were really, really great and I took something from each of them. "Rise to the occassion." "Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ." "Know that I am a daughter of God." "Charity is at the heart of society." "Find JOY in being a Mommy." "Put a higher value on integrity than on visibility." And finally, "We do what we do because we know it's true."
I loved when Sister Beck said, "Never suppress a generous thought." Sometimes I do that and I need to be more focused on increasing my faith and serving.
It was an awesome experience. When the meeting was over, President Monson once again stood and waved and waved and blew kisses and was so sweet. It was such a memorable experience for me.
I am so grateful that I was able to experience this with my mom. I am grateful for my husband, who got the tickets for us and who was as excited for this for me as I was. I am grateful for these moments when I can slow down, focus my heart and my mind and remember what it is that I believe and what I need to work on. I am grateful for the whisperings of the Spirit, which enter our hearts and our minds when we are still and when we are open to what is being said.
I'm SO very glad that you got to go listen to it live. There's nothing like it, huh? I think everyone should get that opportunity at least once! You and your mom are so cute!
