How Time Changes EVERYTHING

I remember, vividly, the first time the quorum met Jeremy's parents. It didn't go so well! Like, I am pretty sure I had a three hour anxiety attack! The quorum was SO young...2,3,4 and 6. I remember that they were WILD and LOUD and I just wanted so bad for the whole thing to be a success. I remember when we left, Jeremy's mom asked Kaydon for a hug..."NOOOOOO!" was his reply. Awesome, was my thought. Then she asked him for a handshake..."NOOOOOOOO!" was that reply. Even more awesome, I thought as my anxiety attack was getting worse. It was a disaster, in my opinion. I never wanted my boys to be anywhere near their home again. But Jeremy, on the other hand, thought it went swell and his parents tried time and time again to calm me down and remind me that it was okay and that the boys would get more comfortable. "Really," I thought..."You don't know Kaydon!"
Jeremy's mom told his dad after we left that day that she wasn't sure she could do this...meaning she didn't think she could handle having four grandsons just like that (especially ones who wouldn't even shake her hand!!!) Jeremy was persistent, though, and made sure that the boys spent plenty of time with them. As time went on, and it didn't take too much time at all, the boys fell in love with their grandparents, and I am pretty sure that Grandpa and Grandma are pretty fond of them too. Jackson loves to go over and just sit on that cozy couch and watch Grandma's movies. Braxton is Grandpa's shadow...follows him everywhere and wants to do whatever work Grandpa is doing. Kaydon...oh Kaydon...he LOVES his Grandma. He kisses her and kisses her...a long ways from the no handshake deal!! And finally Colton...Colton gets more time with them than the others because he is still in pre-school. Colton ADORES his grandparents!
I am sure grateful for time! I am grateful for the Jeremy's persistence and for Mom and Dad's endless hours of TIME with them. They have a HUGE part in the boys lives and teach them so much. We went last night as a family and Grandma and Grandpa bought the two oldest soccer cleats and shin guards...when I gave them "that look" that only I can do :), Dad, very much like Dad does, looked at me and said, "shut up Heidi!" That was his LOVING way of telling me that this is what they do for their boys...and I am so grateful.

  1. What a fun post! Kev and I think it's so important for kids to spend time with their grandparents--we'd much rather move to the country somewhere but having the grandparents so near is a huge blessing! By the way...now that you've started the sports thing it will NEVER end :) But it's all very fun!
