Kaydon's Day

For those of you who haven't known us for long, Kaydon is a miracle. I almost lost him quite a few times before the age of four. He was a very sick little guy, and because of that spent a good majority of his time at Primary Children's Hospital. Since he was released the last time, I haven't taken him near the hospital. It's a wonderful, miraculous place if you need to be there, but if you have spent years there, it's a place you never want to return to.
Today, we did.
I should have prepared him better. We went for an eye appointment, but the eye center is on the same floor which he spent so much time on, and he remembered. He cried silent tears. As they ran down his face, I realized that those few years, early years, left a big imprint on his life.
When he saw children in wagons or wheelchairs, he would hold me hand and look at me and say, "That poor baby. That was me once. I feel so bad for them."
I am grateful for his sympathy for others.
We did get his eyes checked, though.
All that he sees out of his right eye is a blur. Glasses, indeed. He isn't too sad about that, thankfully! He and Dad will go this week and pick out some cool ones.
We go back in six weeks to see if we need to patch his left eye.
When six weeks comes, I will have him a bit more prepared to go into the place that we called home for so long.
Sweet, sweet boy.
