Last night, around 5:15, I cleaned up from dinner, grabbed the grocery list and the checkbook and headed to Maceys. The boys were left to care for Gunner while I was gone.
At about 7:30, I walked through the door and plopped right into my recliner while Jeremy hauled the load into the house and put everything away.
Boys (basically in unison), "Mom, what in the world took you so long at the grocery store?!"
Me: "It was SO busy!"
Boys: "Mom, it must have been REALLY busy, cuz you were gone SO long!"
Me: "You have NO idea!"
Truth be told, I miss working at Maceys. I miss the high school kids telling me about their lives and the college kids telling me about their adventures and the married folk telling me about their fun! I love when they find me in the store and talk to me, just because. Truth be told, I have had the WORST tummy ache the last day or so and I walked about as slow as a person can around the store. Truth be told, we were out of EVERYTHING and it took some creative piling to get it all into ONE cart. Truth be told, I needed some time alone, by myself. This morning, we have food in our house, no more money in the checkbook, and a mommy whose tummy still hurts, but I had a REALLY good break last night. And that's important.
I loved that story, but I'm sorry you still have a tummy ache. And I know this sounds silly, but I love when you talk about Macey's. I MISS that store SO MUCH!
ReplyDeleteHeidi, it is so true some days we just need a break! Even us working mom's need our break from all of it, don't we!
