My Grandma, Delilah Mae Asay Wasden Robb...Grandma was married to a firefighter and had three children...very young children. Her husband died one day fighting a fire, trying to support his young family. One day while working in a sugar factory, she met Walter Simmons Robb, my Grandpa (love that man!) They married and Grandpa took Uncle Phil, Uncle Jim, and Aunt Marlene as his own. He raised them and loved them. Grandma had six more pregnancies which produced four more children. Grandma LOVED raising seven children. They gave her a run for her money, and probably her sanity, too! But my Grandma never waivered, she never seemed to tire, she never seemed to let her temper get the best of her. She remained steadfast, faithful, warm, compassionate, patient, and ever so loving. She had hands like silk, so soft. She used to caress the sides of the arm chairs as she sat watching The Peoples Court each day in her bright polyester shirts. Grandpa had that darn TV so loud, you could hear it clear in town from the farm's front room! Grandma used to get on him about that. Grandma LOVED food, food of all kinds. She loved rhubarb pie, honey candy, homemade chicken soup, and made all of it the best I have ever tasted. I remember one St. Patrick's Day, we were lucky enough to be visiting the farm. Grandma got up early and started her Green Day extravaganza! Oh, it was fun. Green everything! Everything we ate that day had some color of green in it. I thought it was magical. I was in awe that MY grandma could do this...magic, I thought. Ever since that day, I have looked forward to St. Patrick's Day. It reminds me of Grandma. I don't know if it was St. Patrick's Day that Grandma loved or the fact that it was one of those sure signs that Spring was coming. Oh, how she loved Spring...the butterflies, the birds, the warm breezes, the flowers (especially the lavender ones) This morning, I woke up and made the quorum green french toast and thought of Grandma every minute of it. Oh, how I wish she was sitting at my kitchen table eating with the boys. She never got to meet them, she died when Jackson was an infant. She would have loved these rascals. And, they will love her when they meet her again. On this day, I smile, hoping that Grandma is close...until we meet again.
